This course will take you through each step from installation to finished website. I show you how to install wordpress on your own computer for free, so you do not have to pay for a domain name or hosting fees while you take this course. Once you have WordPress installed on your computer, you will learn how to create and run a successful, beautiful responsive design website that you can be proud of.
After explaining the main options of wordpress and showing you what each option does and how to set them up, I’ll let you look over my shoulder as I create a wordpress website. At the beginning of the course, I walk you through setting up wordpress on your own computer so you do not have to pay for a web host (or domain name) while you master wordpress. If you decide to put a website online, you can then look over my shoulder as I purchase a domain name and hosting and install wordpress online.
Whether you choose to host your website on your own computer or with a web host, you will be able to master wordpress. We will start at the very beginning by logging in to familiarize ourselves with the main areas of the dashboard.
Once you are comfortable with your new tools, we will go over the most important features you’ll need when building your website, including:
The WYSIWYG Editor. This is where you’ll enter all of your website’s content.
The Media Library, where you can manage your images, videos, sound files, and other media you want to use on your website.
The wordpress settings, and I will help you step by step to set them up properly.
We will look at the differences between wordpress posts and pages, and I’ll give you a simple way to determine which format you should use in each case.
We will look at excerpts from posts, categories, and tags and learn how to use them on a well-structured site to maximize the visitor experience and search engine ranking benefits.
You’ll see the two main ways you can set up your homepage.
We will set up a contact form on the website so visitors can get in touch with you.
We will set up an “About Us” page and I’ll explain why this page is important and what information it should contain.
We will discuss the legal pages you need.
We will discuss the navigation system on your website and how you can set up custom navigation in the header, page header, or footer of your website. We will also talk about the internal linking of your website.
We will cover wordpress security and set up a system to protect your website from hackers.
We will look at some great free plugins.
Finally, I give you a 20 step plan for building your website.
